Spurs Take Control After Halftime, Defeat Jazz 123–110
Wembanyama’s shooting display and a dominant third quarter carry San Antonio to another home win.
The San Antonio Spurs did what good teams are supposed to do Monday afternoon: make an early push, make the necessary adjustments, and take control when it mattered most.
Behind Victor Wembanyama’s 33-point night and a decisive third quarter surge, the Spurs pulled away from the Utah Jazz for a 123–110 victory at the Frost Bank Center, turning a tight first half into a convincing win.
Wembanyama was the clear difference. The All-Star starter stretched Utah’s defense, drilling seven three-pointers while still commanding attention in the paint. His ability to score from everywhere on the floor opened space for the Spurs’ young backcourt and allowed the offense to flow with purpose after halftime.
“I thought when our activity was up to the level and matched our discipline, we did a good job,” Spurs Head Coach Mitch Johnson said. “I thought we did a good job coming out of halftime and that third quarter with our intensity.”
San Antonio led at the break after allowing Utah to string together an 11-0 run in the second quarter, but the response out of the locker room was immediate. The Spurs outscored the Jazz 35–23 in the third quarter, using tight defense and pushing the tempo to create clean looks in transition and early offense.
The Spurs’ depth again showed. Stephon Castle and De’Aaron Fox kept the ball moving and controlled the pace, while Dylan Harper provided 15 points off the bench and Carter Bryant added a career-high 11 points in extended minutes. Harrison Barnes set an early tone, scoring early and often in the opening quarter to help San Antonio establish rhythm.
Keyonte George led the Jazz with 27 points, and Jusuf Nurkić battled inside, but the Spurs answered every attempt at a comeback with timely baskets and disciplined defense.
San Antonio maintained its double-digit cushion through the fourth quarter, pushing the lead as high as 18 and closing the game with poise — a sign of a team growing more comfortable with big leads.
The victory provides a positive stretch for the Spurs as they look to carry that momentum into an upcoming road back-to-back with the Houston Rockets, with confidence building and roles becoming clearer as the season moves forward.
